This module's discussion should be a fun one. Personality is always an engaging and exciting topic within psychology. I cover many concepts within the module's lecture around personality, as does this week's TedTalk presenter Brian Little as he discusses, "Who are you, really? The puzzle of personality."
Part 1
After watching this week's lecture and the following TedTalk video, respond to the following questions.
Watching Dr. Little's presentation rang very true for me as an introvert who is often asked to behave extraverted. As an agreeable individual, I can tell you about the times I had to be very disagreeable to protect myself and those I love.
How about you?
- After hearing about the Big Five Trait theory, or OCEAN, where do you believe you generally fall in each category?
- What evidence do you have to classify yourself in each of these categories?
- Give a few detailed examples of times you have had to step out of those traits? What was the "cost" of doing so?
- When the world asks you to behave in the opposite way of your natural trait for an area, what works best to return to homeostasis?
- Lastly, how does the career to pursuing (or already in) align or misalign with your OCEAN profile?
Enjoy!
Part 2
There is likely some fascinating information being shared with your classmates. Enjoy reading the responses and give some thoughtful feedback to at least two other people's posts.
