Canvas Overview

Watch the following 4-minute video to learn about your Canvas dashboard and navigation links, as well as how to navigate a course and access assignments. 

To view subtitles for this video, click the toggle captions on button in the toolbar . You can change the location of the captions by clicking on the wheel to the right of the toggle captions on button. 

Add a Profile Image

(Account > Profile)

Seeing your friendly face really helps to build community! Please take a minute to update your Canvas Account profile to include a picture or avatar. Links to an external site. 

Note: I respect your privacy. Your profile image does not need to be a picture of you - it can be something that represents you, instead.

Set Your Notifications

(Account > Notifications)

Canvas allows you to customize how and when you would like to receive notifications from the course. For example, you can receive an email or text message each time I post an announcement or leave a comment on one of your submissions.

Please review and adjust your notification preferences. Links to an external site.

  • I recommend turning ON immediate notifications for Announcements, Grading, Submission Comments, and Conversation Messages.
  • I recommend turning OFF immediate notifications for Discussion Posts. 

Get Help

Use the "Help" icon along the left navigation bar to find the Canvas Guides and contact info for tech support.
