Chapter 2: Workforce Safety & Wellness Discussion

You are first on the scene where a patient is bleeding from a severe laceration.  You are not carrying PPE.  What steps would you take to assist this patient?

Write a response to this discussion prompt by Thursday at 11:59 pm. You might consider the following suggestions to help you get started with typing in the reply box:

• What are the four ways pathogens can enter the body?
• What would be the appropriate PPE to use if it was available?
• What can you use to act as a barrier between you and the patient's blood?  Look around and think outside the box.  Use good old common sense.
• Name and explain two pathogens you may be exposed to in the field, how it is transmitted, and how to avoid contamination.

This is also a great place to share any helpful resources related to the prevention of disease transmission with your classmates.
