Chapter 7 Discussion Post

Chapter 7 covers levels of fire service to a community and the effects of the national or local economy. As the nation's economy experiences growth or negative downturns, local economies will ultimately be affected as well. Review the case study of Miami-Dade County Fire and Rescue Department as they had to make difficult decisions on reduced fire department staffing due to financial shortfalls encountered during the recession. What happens to the community’s level of risk with the reduction of staffing on engine/truck companies during and more importantly what are some of the staffing possibilities that could be explored?

Students will need to discuss the potential impacts on the community if the fire department must reduce staffing. Your discussion should address options that would be equitable to the entire community as it pertains to the community's level of fire and rescue risk. Lastly, who is responsible for the final decision as to the fire department staffing levels? Students must post a minimum of 250 words for this posting.
