Ned Herrmann theorized that we learn from four different types of brain dominance. He maintains that, “brain dominance is expressed in terms of how we prefer to learn, understand, and express something. I call these cognitive preferences, or preferred modes of knowing.”
Here is a graphic displaying his model: Brain Dominance Model.pdf Download Brain Dominance Model.pdf
Complete the following inventory to determine your brain dominance: Brain Dominance Inventory.pdf Download Brain Dominance Inventory.pdf
Then, read the descriptions of the four types of brain dominance: Brain Dominance Descriptions.pdf Download Brain Dominance Descriptions.pdf
If you have a tie for first, read both descriptions and determine which one sounds most like you.
Next, choose the discussion post below based on your brain dominance to reply to (thinker, feeler, doer, or innovator) and answer the following questions:
- What is your brain dominance (according to the inventory) and what do you believe is the greatest strength of your brain dominance and why?
- What do you believe is the greatest weakness of your brain dominance and why?
- If you were working in a group, what types of tasks might you assign the four different brain dominances in order to capitalize on their abilities?
- What do you think you might have in common with the other students in our class that share your brain dominance?
Finally, read all of the posts in your brain dominance category and reply to a minimum of two.
