Course Citizenship

College of the Desert has Student Conduct Standards printed in the catalog.

Students are expected to know and adhere to these rules of conduct at all times. They exist to ensure that all students and faculty are clear about behavior and attitudes that will best enhance learning for all involved. It is your responsibility to read and adhere to this code.

Basically, this Code of Conduct means you need to be nice to the people in this class and to me. I will also be nice to you, although I do get a little frustrated if you don’t do your work and might get on you about that!

You can disagree with each other in the discussions or with me about a grade, but you must do so thoughtfully.

You can critique each other but do so in a productive, thoughtful manner. “I disagree with you because . . . “ not “That’s a dumb idea.” See the difference?

When a student enters College of the Desert, it is taken for granted by the College authorities that an earnest purpose exists and that the student’s conduct will demonstrate that assumption. If, however, the student’s conduct is not appropriate, and the student should be guilty of one or more of the violations listed in the Student Conduct Standards and Procedures policy, then appropriate disciplinary action will be taken as listed in the policy. - COD Catalog 2018-19.

Plagiarism—Take is Seriously

Cheating and Why It's a Bad Thing

If you are caught plagiarizing an assignment, you will receive a zero for that assignment and may be referred for disciplinary action. If you are caught a second time, you will receive a zero and will be referred for disciplinary action. It will then be unlikely you will have enough points to pass the class.
