Participation

Participation means active participation.

We will use Canvas for online discussions, which will provide opportunities to participate in the course outside of the classroom.

  • You are required to actively participate in the online class discussion forums and complete weekly assignments by the posted due dates.
  • Participating in the discussions is the equivalent attending a campus class.
  • Active participation in the discussion forum means you will be asked to directly respond to my weekly post and to reply to fellow student’s responses.
  • Please keep your comments in the Forum focused on the topic.
  • If you wish to discuss a personal matter, you are encouraged to contact me via e-mail.

What does “Active Participation” mean?

Active participation is comprised of three parts (not just one or two of them!):

  1. Logging in at least twice a week and accessing the posted materials.
  2. Reading and replying to discussion posts.
  3. Completing and submitting assignments.

Just logging in and looking around is not enough! Remember that this class is based on 90 hours lecture/lab for the semester + hours homework .

Student Conduct

College of the Desert has Student Conduct Standards printed in the course catalog: COD Catalog 2014-2015 Pg.48 (Links to an external site.)(http://collegeofthedesert.edu/students/cs/Pages/default.aspx)

Students are expected to know and adhere to these rules of conduct at all times. They exist to ensure that all students and faculty are clear about behavior and attitudes that will best enhance learning for all involved. It is your responsibility to read and adhere to this code.

Online Courtesy Policy

Extreme consideration for the feelings of others is expected. Your fellow online students and I can’t see you smile and won’t know that you are joking. Do not tell people they are stupid or wrong. Do explain why you believe differently. If someone has the facts wrong, direct them to the source of accurate information or politely offer your alternative “facts.” Use of profanity or direct insults which defame a person’s character, race, ethnicity, religion, etc. are inappropriate and will not be tolerated. Such abuses will result in expulsion from the course after one warning. I ask that you all be courteous and polite and remember the rules of Netiquette.
