Setup Collaborations Tool

 Canvas Collaborations allow multiple users to work together on the same document at the same time. 

Collaborative documents are saved in real-time, meaning a change made by any of its users will be immediately visible to everyone.

You can use Collaborations to:

-  Copy and paste notes that everyone can access.

-  Share bullet-point lists or agendas for upcoming synchronous class or group time or meetings.

-  Create a text-based whiteboard that everyone in the classroom can see and refer to later.

-  Assign student groups a collaborative assignment as a graded assignment (instructor feature).

 

In order to use this tool you need to have gmail, and google drive.

Gmail

is a free email service provided by Google.

To create an account:

Go to www.gmail.com Links to an external site..

Click Create account.

The sign-up form will appear. ...

Follow the steps on the screen to set up your account.

Use the account you created to sign in to Gmail.

Google docs and google drive

Google Docs are contained in Google Drive, but Google Drive also can have files that you have uploaded from other sources, like videos, and photos.

A Google Doc is a document, spreadsheet, presentation or other document made in your Google  account

Google Drive holds all of your Google documents PLUS:

You can add .pdfs, videos, or images to store or share in your Google Drive from your desktop.

You can create folders of collections of documents that you can share with others

Why Use Google Drive?

Your documents are saved 'in the Cloud' when they are in Google Drive, and can be viewed wherever you have internet access.

  •   Drive also makes it easy for others to edit and collaborate on files.

To install:                      Go to http://drive.google.com Links to an external site. and download Google Drive

 

Integrate google drive to Canvas

To integrate google drive in your Canvas shell go to

“Account” on the main menu and choose “Setting”. Under “Registered Services” you’ll see Google Drive. 

Click on it and follow the directions.
