Take Notes Methods
This methods are explain by students who did this in Intermediate Algebra class last semester.
Directions: Each section is accompanied by a Handout (see bellow). The Handout contains a few definitions, a few "How To" explanations, examples, and "Try It" exercises. Using the structure of the handout you have to write your own notes. Your notes must contain:
- Your name
- The name of the section
- Definitions and "How To" from the provided handout (this is optional, however, it will be a good idea to have the complete notes)
- Everywhere there is a "Read Ex nr..." you have to read the example from the ebook and write in your notes : "I read the Ex nr..." . The link for the section in the ebook is provided at the bottom of the page.
- You have to solve ALL "Try It" exercises. To "solve an exercise means:
- follow all the steps used in the example accompanied with it
- do not just write the answer from the back of the book!!! This will be "0 points"
- You can submit pdf, jpg, and jpeg files
This is very well explain by Horacio:
I downloaded the handout from the module which automatically opens it using Word. Do a "Save As" and name the first handout whatever you want. I saved mine as Horacio Meza 2.1 Handout and so on. Now that it's saved to your files you can edit that handout. Follow the professors instructions for what needs to be included, name, etc.. I made sure to leave enough space between "Try it" questions so that I could write in my solutions. I printed the handout and wrote in my work.
- After I completed the first handout I used my iPhone to scan the completed document.
- Open your notes app.
- On the bottom righthand corner is the icon to create a new note. Open it.
- Click and open the camera icon on the new note. Choose the "Scan Documents" option.
- Position the document in view. Hold your phone still and it will auto focus and take the picture. Then it will say "Ready for next scan". Repeat the process until you've completed scanning of all the pages for section 2.1. Click "save" once you are done.
- Now on the upper left hand corner hit <All iCloud. You should see the document you just scanned at the very top. Open it and make sure that all the pages are in focus.
- Now on the upper right hand corner click on the circle with three dots in it. It will open up a new menu. Click "send copy". I used airdrop to transfer the file from my phone to my desktop. You can also choose email and it will attached it to a blank email. Save the file on your desktop to whatever folder you have created for your math handouts.
- Now you have a completed file which you can upload on the handouts module.
I'm sharing my completed first handout so you can see how it looks.

Leylany Lopez:
Since I don’t have a printer I decided to do all my problems on paper and take pictures of each one and then uploading them onto the document. When finishing all my notes I made a specific file to keep all my notes together so later I’m not having a hard time looking for them. It took quite a while but it got the job done. I hope this helps!

The way I have taken notes is by using an app on my iPad called Notability. Using the app I am able to upload the work sheets straight to the app and start taking notes all electronically. Once I was done taking notes, I am able to save my work into a PDF file on my iPad then, upload it into Canvas. I love using the app for all my classes since I can organize all my notes for each class, upload any handouts, and submit my work from Notability straight to Canvas. I hope this helps.

Writing directly in Word.
Save the document in your computer and open it with Word. You should use Word from Microsoft Office 365.
This is free for all students. See how to download the Microsoft Office 365 for free.
In word you enable editing and then edit the document.
Note: use "Insert Equation" future.
In Word go to "Insert" and then "Equation - Insert New Equation". A space is created and you can use math symbols from menu to write your equation.
There is a keyboard shortcut for Word Insert equation: "Alt+="
You can transform your already written equation in math style:
- select the equation
- click Insert new equation, or Alt+=
