Do We Need More Women in the Board Room?
Read this article on Forbes at https://www.forbes.com/sites/lizelting/2017/07/24/there-are-dangerously-few-women-in-the-boardroom-thats-a-problem/#4c7071bd7eaa Links to an external site., and consider the following questions for discussion:
- What are some thoughts and observations about this article?
- Do you think there are two few women in the boardroom?
- How might having women serve on the boards of public, private, or nonprofit organizations change the decisions that are made by a board?
- How does this article pertain to Chapter 4?
- Provide your comments for two student posts.
Your answers will need to demonstrate that:
- You have reviewed/read the textbook.
- You have processed the information and applied it to your own critical thinking process.
Critical thinking involves incorporating your personal experiences with new information to analyze a situation. In other words, you will not receive credit for simply repeating or rewording the textbook, nor will you receive credit for simply stating your opinion without any research or facts to support that opinion. At the same time, you answer must show me that you have read the text material.
Neatness, grammar, formatting and punctuation count. This is not an English class. However, as business professionals, you will be expected to produce professionally crafted written communication all the time. You may as well get used to doing so now.
- Return to the discussion forum over the next few days and read what your fellow students are posting and provide comments and feedback to at least two of them per discussion question.
Again, your response to my question is due on Wednesday. Your response to at least two other students, per discussion question, is due by Sunday. Your responses to other students must be substantive and go beyond a mere ‘good job’ or ‘I agree’. Most of the time, I will grade your responses to other students on Mondays or Tuesdays. Think of the discussion forum as a classroom discussion. This means all students can see your work and can also read my response to it, just like would happen in a ‘live’ discussion. I will participate in the discussions on a semi-regular basis. After the first few weeks, I will assign everyone to discussion groups. This will allow you to get to know other students better and have more interactive discussions in the forums.
