- Wait until I provide you with feedback on your simple genogram from the last module to start this one.
- If you are creating the genogram by hand, I suggest using pencils and to draw the symbols lightly in the beginning in case you need to erase due to spacing problems.
- Once you have everyone on the genogram that you decided on, you can go over the lines to make them darker (I'm not concerned with perfect neatness).
- This assignment is the structure of your genogram, and you will be adding information to it in the next assignment
- You are going to take what you have learned and the information that you obtained from genogram Assignments in previous modules and discussions and create a full three generational genogram.
- To begin, start with the basic family genogram; This will be in the center of the full genogram
- From this center you will create the diagram in different directions
- Decide ahead of time which family groups that you are going to have the most information about and focus on them next
- You should proceed in this order:
- Put your simple genogram of your immediate family in the middle of your paper or program
- Focus only on creating the structure of your genogram through family relationships of marriage, divorce, committed relationships, children, separation, twins, etc...
- It is easiest to have relationships in the middle a little further apart, especially regarding your parents
- Then you can center each parents' family of origin above them in which they become the children in their families.
- Take your time doing each family unit together or using some other step-by-step process.
- The video helps with some of the basics and remember you are just focusing on the basics of the genogram, the structure.
