Achieving Success

"Oh, I can do that later. . ."

Most students think in-class work and participation is paramount, and it is.  However, the work you complete outside of class is just as critical, because it prepares you to learn.  Each week, you will have a variety of different "homework" assignments to complete.   Adapt a habit of logging on to your BUMA 001 Canvas homepage on a daily basis.  This is where you'll find my videos and announcements about what's due next, as well as the official Course Syllabus and submission schedule.

I recommend that you log in every single day.  Use the Canvas Calendar to create alerts on your phone or on your computer for upcoming lesson due dates or anything else you think you might forget! Set up your Notifications in Canvas Links to an external site. as well. (You can receive notifications via text Links to an external site..)

Take your quizzes/exams etc on a reliable computer with a reliable connection to the internet. I cannot reopen quizzes/tests after the day they are due so please give yourself enough time to find solutions if there is a problem.  Arrange to take any chapter quizzes/tests early, well before the 11:59pm cut off time, to avoid the risk of a test closing and losing your score.

I'm sure you understand that it is your responsibility to get to a computer to complete your work on time.  Go to COD's library, your local library, or a friend’s house if your computer crashes or your Internet goes down.

Course Syllabus

The course syllabus contains important information about class procedures, due dates, grading policies, etc.  It's a guideline for what you can expect of me and what I expect of you throughout the term.

Student Activities:

In order to achieve the student learning outcomes you will be evaluated through the following assignments:

  • Discussion Forums: To make sure students engage each other over the material, each student will be graded on discussion forums dispersed throughout this course.  These posts must be professional, meaningful, and incorporate specific examples from the text or Learning Modules.
  • Papers: Students will complete papers and/or presentations on assigned topics.
  • Reading Assignments: In order to prepare for each class, students must complete reading assignments.
  • Quizzes: These quizzes are open-book, open-note, and untimed quizzes that allow you to check your understanding of the reading.

Time Commitment:

Time to complete each module may vary from week to week. If you want to earn the best grade, and get the most out of the materials presented in class, plan on dedicating additional hours outside of class.
