Dear Students,
Greetings and welcome to the 2021 Spring Session of COMM001, Introduction to Public Speaking! My name is Gary Walker, I’ve been an instructor at COD for the past 34 years and I’m excited to be leading you in an online discovery of the fundamentals of Effective Speaking.
ABOUT THIS COURSE COMM-1442
This online course will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 10:50 AM on CANVAS ConferZone This is a 3-credit semester-long course in which you should expect to spend about 2 hours per week on speeches and research, when necessary.
We will cover the following topics during the semester:
What is COMM001? It's a basic approach to improving your verbal and body language communication.
The basics of COMM001? Understanding and dealing with the fears and concerns you have about speaking in public and important discussions, arguments, and conversations.
Details of COMM001? Generally, you will give short speech each week, with you being the major topic of the presentations.
Applying COMM001? You will build your self-confidence and learn some tricks of the trade.
