Courses Offered (All courses, except PS 001, are usually only offered once a year):

  • PS 001. Intro to Government: Learn about the structure and institutions of the national government and California government. Fall and Spring Semesters
  • PS 002. Intro to Comparative Governments: Compare and contrast different countries’ governments and political histories. Fall Semester, only
  • PS 003. Intro to Political Theory: Read the original works of major political theorists, including Aristotle, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Marx, Rawls, DuBois, etc. Spring Semester, only
  • PS 004. Intro to International Relations: Learn about the interactions of governments and leaders and the theories that govern their relationships. Spring Semester, only
  • PS 005. The American Presidency: Learn about the evolution of the presidency and the modern presidency, the presidential selection process, and the president’s role in policymaking. Fall Semester, only

Global Studies at College of the Desert

Courses Offered: (Each course is offered once a year):

  • GS 010. Intro to Global Studies: Learn about globalization from an interdisciplinary perspective. Focus is on cultural, political, economic, and ecological dimensions of globalization. Fall Semester, only
  • GS 011. Global Issues:  What are the results of an ever-globalizing world? Study specific issues including resource problems (food, energy, water), global inequality and poverty, human trafficking, cybersecurity, etc. Spring Semester, only
