Discussion 8 Instructions (Read First)
Purpose:
Combination group activity and discussion posts in which students learn about genograms by interpreting one with the specific goal of familiarizing students with genogram symbols. Group participation will serve to allow students to talk out the meanings of the symbols.
Due Date & Grading Criteria:
Initial Post due at the end of class on 10/13/20
Grading Rubric:
- 1 Point: following instructions for posting to discussion and for answering the group questions thoroughly
- 1 Point: posting your responses on 10/6/20 by midnight
- 3 Points: Did you engage in a deep analysis of genogram symbol interpretation?
Discussion Instructions:

Each group’s recorder will post first, and group members will reply to this post for their responses; recorder’s post will include the answers to four questions:
- How has multiethnicity in the family played out from one generation to the next?
- What does this genogram reveal about Patrick and Michael?
- What do you notice about Anna’s current family that includes Nick and John? What more would you like to find out about these family members to help you better understand Anna?
- What emotional relationship patterns do you notice and are any of these repeated from one generation to the next?

- What are you confused about regarding genograms and this activity?
- Was there anything in the genogram that you are thinking about putting in your genogram? If so, what? If not, how come?
- How are feeling right now about doing your own genogram?
