Chapter 2 of the book discusses the scientific method, and how research is done in psychology:

For this assignment think of a topic that interests you, then come up with a hypothetical research question.  Think of which research method and subjects would be best to study your hypothetical research question.

Example: My topic of interest is whether or not listening to music enhances learning.  Specifically, my research question is: Does listening to Taylor Swift while studying for an exam improve learning and therefore produce higher scores on the exam?  The best way to approach this research question is to conduct an experiment; because it is the only way to establish a cause-and-effect relationship.  My subjects will be a class of intro psychology students, divided into two groups.  One group (experimental group) will study for the exam while listening to Taylor Swift's awesome new album.  While the second group (control group)  will study without listening to music.  To determine the outcome of the experiment, both group's test scores will be compared to identify which group performed better on the test.

Once you have figured out your topic of interest, method, and subjects; answer the three questions in this assignment.
