Comma + a little conjunction (FANBOYS - for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) to connect two independent clauses. 

 For example:

The little boy hit the ball off the tee, but he ran toward third base.

OR

The little boy hit the ball off the tee and ran toward third base.

NOT 

The little boy hit the ball off the tee, and ran toward third base. 
(There has to be a subject & verb on each side of the comma)
