In this module we reviewed the four types of sentences:
- Simple - Independent Clause (subject-verb)
- Compound - 2 Independent clauses joined with a FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)
- Complex - Contains an independent clause and a dependent clause (uses subordinating conjunction)
- Compound - Complex - 2 independent clauses and a dependent clause
For your journal, write 4 original sentences, one for each category: simple, compound, complex, compound-complex. You can refer to this WaldenU Website Links to an external site. for examples of each type of sentence. Here are some example sentences:
- She went to the store last night to get eggs. (simple)
- I want to go on a hike, but I need to finish my homework first. (compound)
- Although I love chocolate, I try not to eat too much of it. (complex)
- Even though I'm organized for the birthday party, I still need to get balloons, and I have to pick up the birthday cake. (compound-complex)
