Blogger - How to Create a Homepage - Follow Jay's Step-by-Step Guide - Pearls of Wisdom

Estimados Estudiantes,

If you are reading this, you are well on your way to creating a professional writers blog.

Jay's Tip: Ask yourself, "What type of image/message do I want to convey to my readers?"

* Your homepage will be essential to your blog's success.

* Create a blog design - colors, font, image - that represents who you are and what you write.

* Remember: You can always modify your homepage later - start with a basic idea.

Here is  Jay's Three-Part Plan:

1. Title

2. Image

3. Text

* I created my homepage on a Powerpoint slide

* I saved it as a PNG image

* I inserted the image as a "Page" on Blogger

1. Title

I thought of books, music, and movies.

- You might think people, places, or things.

- Do you have a nice phrase stuck in the back of your head that would make an interesting title?

* I found "Black Tango" on one of the pages of a book I'm reading - For some reason, I had underlined "Black Tango" - It wasn't very important to the story, but I liked the sound of it.

2. Image

* Once I had my title, I just typed it into the search box for google.images.

* I like my title "The Double Life" - When I typed in "Double Life" into google.images I found many interesting images to choose from.  I have no idea who this young woman is or what she is doing, but the image adds "Double-Meaning" to my homepage.

3. Text

* You Decide!

* I suggest you position your name, your class, your semester.

* Do you want to add a quote, a lyric, a "Pearl of Wisdom"?

* What do you have to say to your readers?

* For Hissie, the name of her blog is already the name of a famous rock song - I didn't have to add anything.

How to Make It Happen -

* Design your page in Powerpoint

-  You can select fonts, colors, images, etc

-  You can arrange the page the way you want it to look.

- You can use an app on your phone to make a foto collage - Arish did!

* Save your homepage in Powerpoint - as a Powerpoint slide.  this means you will be able to go back and MAKE CHANGES if you wish to later.

* Save your Powerpoint slide - your homepage - as a PNG image.  You will need an image to insert into your blog page.

* Save your PNG image in your CANVAS picture file.  You will need to submit it later for CANVAS grade points.

Go to Blogger

* Click on "Pages"

* Click on "New Page"

* Upoad image of Homepage (This is the one you saved as a PNG.)

* Once you have "Add selected," CLICK on your image to adjust size and position:

* I suggest you CLICK on X-Large - this size will fit nicely onto your Blog page.

* Don't Forget to PUBLISH your page:

* Here is what a "snip" of Billie's homepage looks like on his blog:

Jay's Final Tips:

* Stay Basic.  Keep It Simple.  You Can Change It Later!

This is going to be great.  You will see.
