Blogger - Create an "About Me" Page

Estimados Estudiantes,

Who are you?  Why should we read your blog? Can you organize a few interesting thoughts to grab our attention?

Below, I went to a few “How-To”  internet sites to help me develop an “About Me” page for my guest student Hissie Chrynde.

( Jay’s Tip:  There is no right way or wrong way to create your page. You decide.  But, this is what I say:  be balanced, be concise, be yourself.)

* Share a picture of yourself: Show us your pretty face!  Doing so helps readers connect with you.

* Start with a hook: Whether you are funny, informative, controversial, or just plain entertaining, your “about me” post should grab your readers’ attention and keep them coming back for more.

(Hissie:) "Are you Ready, Girls?  Guys?"  That's what Chrissie Hynde  of the Pretenders often asked her audience at the beginning of her shows.  Are you ready for my blog?

* Know what your goals are: Understand why you have a blog and be able to communicate that message to your audience.  Are you looking for readers to share your daily stories with?  Do you have a store you want us to know about?  Are you a food blogger looking for people to use your site as a resource for recipes?  Whatever your personal mission may be, craft your post so that readers understand what you want from them.

(Hissie:) Whenever I get real down and depressed, I try to write down what I feel.  It's not a very complicated or sophisticated process. I just type and type and type until the sadness goes away. When I began to think of an appropriate title for a blog, I came up with "Stop Your Sobbing."  I think it just might work.

* Be your own advocate: Only you can give readers the most compelling reason why they should read your blog.  Help people understand who you are by adding your personal touch to your post.  Maybe list a bit of trivia about yourself or talk about how you got started blogging.  A good story will hook an audience every time!

(Hissie:) I'm inspired to write after reading Chrissie Hynde's memoir, Reckless.  She has no fear - on stage or in her writing. I hope one day to put my feelings to words like she does. I say, "Are You Ready?"

This is what it looks like when I copy and paste everything together:

I'm not sure how closely I followed my own directions here, but I like it.  If you are looking for more tips and structure, I've attached "get-started" worksheet to this announcement.

I hope you are having as much fun as I am with your new blog.

Paz,

JL
