Developing the Mind Map – Cluster Chart

  1. "Back to the Future" Sixties Research Project Cluster Chart – 100 points

Let’s develop our professional skills. Here we will create our chart on the computer. I will grade you on appearance, organization, and content.

Here is a link to online step-by-step instructions: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/build-mind-map-microsoft-word (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

This is what I suggest:

  1. Break down your writing plans into six specific areas or patterns of development.
  2. Create a chart – a mind map – that starts with the subject of your profile in the middle.
  3. You should begin with your SIXTIES SUBJECT in the middle. Enter the name of your sixties subject , or the emphasis of your writing into the middle of a geometric shape.
  4. Surround your subject profile with at least six geometric shapes representing specific areas or patterns of development. Build a web of associations.

Here are some examples.

  1. Cause and Effect – If you are writing about the Moonlanding, can you list important reasons why we went to the Moon in the first place.  What did we get out of the trip?

2. Process Analysis – If you are writing about the assassination of President Kennedy, can you take us through the crime scene step-by-step.  What happens when the presidential motorcade turns into Dealey Plaza.

3. Compare and Contrast – If you are writing about Cesar Chavez, could you write about how this person changed your attitude and/or view on life.  What type of conditions to fieldworkers experience before Cesar..  What were they like after?

4. Narration – Can you bring a little storytelling into your writing. Can you paint a scene of your reader. Can you capture a meaningful moment or activity.  What components are going to fit this frame?

This is what you do:

a. Keep a color copy of your mindmap inside your binder

b. Submit a digital copy in the space provided.

This is going to be great.  You will see.
