Visual Analysis - Instructions - Writing Prompts

Visual Analysis:  Abstinence-only Programs

(Jay's Tip: I'm going to look for a poster that combines imagery and text - I'll have a lot more to write about!)

Here are the questions  you need to answer in this piece:

1.       Discuss the basic elements of your image:  picture, captions, description, colors, shapes.

2.       Does the creator of this ad/poster want?  What’s the message?

3.       Who is the intended audience?  What does the ad ask the viewer or consumer to believe or care about?

4.       What persuasive technique or strategy does the author use to reach viewers: pathos, logos, and What visual element grabs your attention first.  What seems to be most important?

5.       What /or ethos?

6.       How do the words of the advertisement explain or emphasize the picture and vice versa.

7.       What is being shown, and what I being left out.

Can you develop a few sentences of response for each question.  Or, can you devote more time and energy two a few of the questions and leave the rest out.

You will need 300 words for your visual analysis.

This will be great.  You will see.
