What's Next? Build Your Own Comic Strip Narrative

Hola Guys,

Here we are working on COHERENCE.   You will find that effective use of transitions will help your writing flow.

Here is what you do next:

1.       Select a comic strip by exploring “Google Images”

2.       Go to Google Images – type in “comic strip”

3.       Look for a comic strip of five panels.  If you find a great one of three panels, go for it.  If you find a great one of ten panels, go for it!  The important part is you are able to develop a narrative from the strip.

a.       Begin with a sentence that identifies the characters and the setting

b.      Next, write a sentence that summarizes the event that might have preceded the first panel – use you IMAGINATION!

c.       Then tell the story the pictures tell – write 2-3 detailed sentences for each panel.

d.      In you last sentence, be sure to use present tense and to include all necessary transitions.

Your Narrative should be at least 200 words.

Here is how I organized my Wolverine narrative – I used the same principles I used to write my Spiderman narrative.

  1. Wolverine and Ironman had partied the entire night together.
  1. Ironman had awoken early to make breakfast.
  2. He has some special cooking skills.
  3. He doesn’t need any appliance to make toast.
  4. Wait until you see how he makesscrambled eggs.

Here is how my paragraph looks after I insert the appropriate transitions:

Like only superheroes can, Wolverine and Ironman partied like crazy the entire night. But that didn’t stop Ironman from waking up early to make breakfast.  You see,  beyond Ironman’s unique superhero qualities, he has some crazy cooking skills.  For example, he doesn’t need any appliance to make toast.  In fact, he doesn’t even have to get up from the table.  He can just pop perfectly grilled slices right out of his shoulders. Just wait until you see how he makes scrambled eggs.
