Jay's Sample Spiderman Paragraph - Step by Step
In class, I have handed out a Spiderman comic strip. You are to analyze the conflict through the five panels of the story. I want you to recount the events in a narrative paragraph. In your Spiderman narrative, I want you to practice developing a coherent paragraph through the use of effective transitions. Feel free to use the ones you find in your textbook charts, or don’t hesitate to use the chart I pass out in class. Please make your choices based on the need of the sentence: time, space, comparison, contrast, example, focus ( to be more specific), causes and/or effects, summary, conclusion, etc.
Here is mine:
Spiderman Transition Exercise:
-
- In a battle for control of the city, the Vulture has apparently disposed of Spiderman.
- After all, it looks as if the Vulture has trapped Spiderman inside a water tank with no way out.
Panel #1: With Spiderman out of the way, the Vulture now thinks he has free reign to carry out his master plan.
Panel #2: Indeed, the situation looks bad. Spiderman is alive, but there seems little he could do to stop the Vulture
Panel #3: However, that doesn’t stop him from trying.
Panel #4: Certainly, he knows if he doesn’t think of something quick, he is going to die in there.
Panel #5: In other words, this time the mighty Spiderman to win, he will have to rely on his brain power, not his physical attributes.
In conclusion, the true strength of a superhero is in the mind. Spiderman’s only chance here is to utilize his mind against the forces of evil. His city depends on his ability to figure a way out of that tank.
When I put it all together, this is how my paragraph looks:
